City

Central Park. New York. May 2012.

    A Sunday at Central Park

Ah, New York! One Sunday afternoon in Central Park, what do you think? I take you on a ride, in pictures.
Manhattan. Night view from the Empire State Building. (New York, May 2012.)

    New York at my feet

See New York from above, it's THE tourist thing to do ... So, Rockefeller Center or Empire State Building? Both is better! One by day and the other by night.
The buildings of Manhattan. New York. May 2012.

    New York City Getaway

NYC. Three inspiring initials New York City, come back! It was my first trip to the United States and my first steps in "the city that never sleeps" ...
    Montreal Chinatown

    Montreal Chinatown

A little piece of Asia in Montreal: here's a glimpse of Chinatown, in two short videos.
    Montreal Postcards

    Montreal Postcards

I love Montreal. There are skyscrapers, maple trees, squirrels and pumpkins. They speak French, but you feel like you're in an American TV series. So much fun!
The Twin Towers of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

What to do in Kuala Lumpur?

A day to lose in Kuala Lumpur, before flying home? All the better. Because KL, there are lots of things too cool to do ...
    Earth Hour around the world

    Earth Hour around the world

One hour in the dark to save the planet... That's Earth Hour, organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in several thousand cities and over 60 countries on Saturday evening.
Bangkok, the tourist district, night. Thailand, February 2009.

    Farangset is good

Here I am in Bangkok, in the tourist district, for a short night. I take off again early on Friday for Phuket. Heading for Koh Yao Noi, my first stopover, in Phang Na Bay.
    Bangkok underwater in 2030?

    Bangkok under water in 2030?

Bangkok, built on a marshy ground, sinks. With rising sea levels due to global warming, the capital of Thailand could be swallowed up under 1.50 meters of water by 2030.
Back to real life in Santo Domingo

Back to real life in Santo Domingo

Sunday, a visit to the capital, Santo Domingo. I was delighted to see Cathedral Square again, with its shady benches and the terrace of the Hotel El Conde.
Fake cardboard cop on Koh Samui. He even has his own electric garland, just to be seen at night... :-D

    Unusual Thailand

This discussion thread on VoyageForum.com inspired me to create the following series of photos. Unusual or funny scenes, captured during my various trips to the "land of smiles"... Amazing Thailand! (Thai Tourist Board slogan).
In front of the monument to the dead of the attacks of 2002. (Kuta, Bali)

    Odd souvenir picture

In Kuta (Bali), people are photographed in front of the monument to the Bali bombings of October 12, 2002.
Jeepney on a street in Cebu City. (Philippines, February 2008)

Back to Cebu for the end of the trip

Cebu City is a big city not very beautiful, of which I saw only a few streets and malls ... The kind of city where we just pass.
In the streets of Manado. North Sulawesi, Indonesia. July 2007.

    Back to "civilization"

Today I am back in Manado, where I find the civilization and comfort of the modern world: air conditioning and hot water, shopping malls and club-sandwiches, mobile phone that captures and high-speed internet connections ...
The mikrolets of Manado. Sulawesi, Indonesia.

    The "mikrolets" of Manado

Back to Manado for a day trip, the time to book my plane tickets to the Toraja Country and organize my trip to the Togian Islands. I'm learning to travel in mikrolet, these blue minibuses that crisscross the city ...
Khao San Road, the tourist street, still lively ... Bangkok, Thailand, January 2007.

    In the frenzy of Bangkok

Here I am, back in Bangkok, and not without pleasure, I must say... It's good to be back in civilization: no more mosquitoes, and long live fast Internet connections, restaurants, lively streets and stores worthy of the name!
    Johor Bahru. Malaysia.

    Luxury hotel in Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru is a borderless city without any charm. Its asset: to be the gateway to Malaysia, just in front of Singapore.
Mosaic of colors at the central market of Kota Bahru. (Malaysia, July 2006)

Kota Bahru, the capital of Kelantan

Despite my not very favorable first impression of Kota Bahru (Malaysia), it's starting to please me. The city is ugly but the people are cool like anything.
In the streets of Kota Bahru. Women wear scarves and covering clothes, but gay and colorful. (Malaysia, July 2006)

    Arrival in Kota Bahru

The train that never arrives has finally arrived, the taxi drivers rushed to the handful of farangs who came down with their backpacks.
Thailand, July 2006. Chumphon food market, late afternoon.

    Chumphon Noodle Soup

Here I am, disembarked in Chumphon (pronounced "tcheumpone") by the Lomprayah, the catamaran boat that links up with the Thai peninsula. Next, a shuttle bus with luggage and passengers stacked on the back platform to the center, where I was dropped off with the others in front of an Internet café a few minutes' walk from the station.
In the streets of Kuala Lumpur, you can not escape the giant billboards. (Malaysia, February 2006)

    Malaysia: J-89

To kill time while waiting for the big departure, I test the posting of a blog. Takeoff Friday, June 23, 2006: J-89 ... It's not so far!
