Evening delights with the "roulottes" of Papeete

If you are visiting Tahiti, it is essential to eat at the popular "roulottes" of Papeete, on the seafront. The atmosphere is nice, family. It's good and cheap.
The best pad Thai at Koh Phi Phi, at Only Noodles. Thailand, February 2011.

The best Koh Phi Phi pad Thai

Only Noodles... Only noodles. That's the name of a tiny restaurant we loved on Koh Phi Phi. On the menu were noodles, exclusively: the famous Thai stir-fried noodles known as pad-thai. In my humble opinion, this is the best place to eat pad-thai on Koh Phi Phi!
The ice cream shop in Gapang Beach. Pulau Weh, Indonesia, March 2010.

The little music of the ice cream man

If you have ever been to Southeast Asia, you will recognize it. The little music of the ice cream shop is the most famous melody and the best peddle in this region of the world ... From Indonesia to Vietnam, from Thailand to Malaysia, we hear it everywhere!
    Eat on the street

    Eat on the street

I love this book! It's a world tour of street food. It tickles the taste buds and makes you travel. The title is Take away. Ten years of travel, 500 photos and 120 recipes: a book to devour with your eyes, concocted by a photographer, Jean-François Mallet, who was also a chef...

A little piece of Asia in Montreal: here's a glimpse of Chinatown, in two short videos.

    A poutine in Montreal

For once, I'm not in Asia. And I'm not blowing bubbles underwater. No, I've crossed the Atlantic for a week's getaway in Montreal...
Pad Thai: noodles sautéed Thai ... I love it! (Photo Source: Wikimedia Commons - Ben Frantz Dale)

    In lack of pad Thai?

It's the most popular Thai dish with Western tourists. Tasty, nutritious and inexpensive. A simple plate of fried noodles, for which I feel nostalgic when I'm away from Thailand.
A little smile for my camera? Koh Yao Noi, Thailand, February 2009.

Peaceful adventures in Koh Yao Noi

Here are new pictures of the peaceful little island of Koh Yao Noi, in the bay of Phang Nga, Thailand. Authentic atmosphere, nothing to do with Phuket.
    Kopi Bali, the Balinese coffee.

    Kopi Bali

Balinese coffee, or kopi Bali, is tasty and full-bodied. Every morning, since my return, I finish waking up in front of a cup of kopi Bali.

The Togian Islands, a small paradise

The rest of my trip to Sulawesi (Indonesia) during the summer of 2007 ... On the program: the Togian Islands. A little paradise at the end of the world!
Two girls take shelter under large leaves as umbrellas. Philippines, February 2008.

    It's raining on Dumaguete

Since my arrival in Dumaguete-Dauin on Monday, the weather has remained gloomy, between light grey and damp grey. It's raining under a sky of low clouds, shrouding the surrounding mountains and volcanoes in mist. It's no big deal, though: underwater, you're wet anyway!
    Filipino chorizo.

    Filipino chorizo

The good thing about the Philippines is that you can find chorizo... Another heritage of Spanish colonization! But I've yet to taste this Filipino chorizo.
A traditional rocker boat, photographed off Pantai Liang (Bunaken).

Arrival in Sulawesi: heading for Bunaken!

Through the porthole of the plane, I discover Sulawesi, and the island of Bunaken, where I will spend the first five days. Arriving a creepy hair: it is nice over the bay, but a big rainy cloud settled on the airport of Manado.
Mosaic of colors at the central market of Kota Bahru. (Malaysia, July 2006)

Kota Bahru, the capital of Kelantan

Despite my not very favorable first impression of Kota Bahru (Malaysia), it's starting to please me. The city is ugly but the people are cool like anything.
Thailand, July 2006. Chumphon food market, late afternoon.

    Chumphon Noodle Soup

Here I am, disembarked in Chumphon (pronounced "tcheumpone") by the Lomprayah, the catamaran boat that links up with the Thai peninsula. Next, a shuttle bus with luggage and passengers stacked on the back platform to the center, where I was dropped off with the others in front of an Internet café a few minutes' walk from the station.
