Papua: Raja Ampat + Triton Bay

Raja Ampat and Triton Baytwo exceptional diving spots in eastern Indonesia, are located in West Papua. Between the Indian and Pacific oceans, this name historically refers to the immense territory annexed by Indonesia in the 1960s: the western half of the island of New Guinea, once colonized by the Dutch.

Today, this territory is administratively divided into several Indonesian provinces.

The one on which the Raja Ampat archipelago depends now bears the name of Papua Barat Daya. The one on which the Triton Bay area depends has kept the name of Papua Barat (West Papua). Raja Ampat is reached via the town of Sorongand Triton Bay via the city of Kaimana.
