I am facinated by the hands of this old lady with the fingers of fairy. (Flores, Indonesia, July 2011)

    Ikat weavers

If, like me, you cross the island of Flores (Indonesia), you will meet many people wearing traditional fabrics called ikats, very beautiful, whose patterns and colors differ from one region to another.
    At the Rantepao market

    At the Rantepao market

I like hanging out in Asian markets. During my stay in Sulawesi (Indonesia), last summer, I went for a ride in that of Rantepao, in the heart of Toraja country. Here are some pictures of atmosphere ...
    Montreal Postcards

    Montreal Postcards

I love Montreal. There are skyscrapers, maple trees, squirrels and pumpkins. They speak French, but you feel like you're in an American TV series. So much fun!
At the fish market in Tawau (Borneo, Malaysia, July 2009).

From Tawau (Malaysia) to Tarakan (Indonesia): a breeze!

Do you dream of tropical beaches? Do not go to Tawau! People are nice, but this Malaysian city in northeastern Borneo is a mochissime. Its only attraction is to be the entry point to Indonesia ...

Two girls take shelter under large leaves as umbrellas. Philippines, February 2008.

    It's raining on Dumaguete

Since my arrival in Dumaguete-Dauin on Monday, the weather has remained gloomy, between light grey and damp grey. It's raining under a sky of low clouds, shrouding the surrounding mountains and volcanoes in mist. It's no big deal, though: underwater, you're wet anyway!

    The little eyebrow raise

Filipinos have a way of greeting you. To point out that they have seen you, noticed, seen, to say hello fast by the way, instead of a small nod, or a smile like in Thailand, they raise their eyebrows.
The countryside around Tomohon, with Mount Lokon on the horizon.

    Heading Tomohon

Now that I am the queen of the mikrolet, I am embarking without hesitation in the first blue minibus that displays "Karombasan" direction "Wanea". Karombasan is the bus terminal south of Manado.
Khao San Road, the tourist street, still lively ... Bangkok, Thailand, January 2007.

    In the frenzy of Bangkok

Here I am, back in Bangkok, and not without pleasure, I must say... It's good to be back in civilization: no more mosquitoes, and long live fast Internet connections, restaurants, lively streets and stores worthy of the name!

Kota Bahru, the capital of Kelantan

Despite my not very favorable first impression of Kota Bahru (Malaysia), it's starting to please me. The city is ugly but the people are cool like anything.
Thailand, July 2006. Chumphon food market, late afternoon.

    Chumphon Noodle Soup

Here I am, disembarked in Chumphon (pronounced "tcheumpone") by the Lomprayah, the catamaran boat that links up with the Thai peninsula. Next, a shuttle bus with luggage and passengers stacked on the back platform to the center, where I was dropped off with the others in front of an Internet café a few minutes' walk from the station.
