Maldives nostalgia
I'm craving. Of light and tropical heat, of islands and salt water, of bubbles and coral... I am already nostalgic for the Maldives.
CLARIFICATIONS: in April 2014, I interrupted my series of articles on the MaldivesI found it difficult to continue extolling the beauties of this Indian Ocean archipelago (and thus encouraging people to visit the Maldives) when the regime had tightened its application of Sharia law, after my visit in February 2014. Not respecting human rights, the Maldives had had to leave the Commonwealth of Nations in 2016. But in september 2018, things have changed, with the surprise defeat in the autocratic president's elections Abdulla Yameen supported by Islamists and now prosecuted for corruption, beaten by Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, an ally of the democratic camp. Then in april 2019, the party of Mohamed Nasheedformer president of the Maldives (2008-2012), several times imprisoned by the regime and main opposition figure, won the first legislative elections since Yameen left. The Maldives return to the path of democracyThis is great news!
Turquoise blue panorama
It's been more than a month since I came back from the Maldives... Five weeks and four days have passed since I left the turquoise blue horizon of this coral archipelago on the waterin the middle of the Indian Ocean.
Time flies and I'm just starting to explore the images stored in the back of my hard drive... I just found this little panorama that I had forgotten, made with my iPhone, with the nice app Dermandarfrom the bow of the boat, the aptly named Ocean Divine.
We were in front of Dhingurah Island, one of the stopovers of this fantastic dive-cruise which took me from Malé to Ari Atoll...
Want to leave
The desire to go back to distant horizons nags me again.
The shark passes, the fragile beauty of the islands, the intense blue as far as the eye can see, this magnificent boat and the company of other passionate divers... I already miss it all.
I am nostalgic for the Maldives.
😎
Thank you Corinne for these images, the Maldives is indeed a dream destination! I'm talking about it all the more because we did 7 dive cruises there and I think it's the best way to explore and discover this magnificent destination.
At the same time, I wanted to thank you for all the information and advice you were able to give us, especially on another destination that is just as wonderful: Papua New Guinea ....là still so many emotions for photographers divers!!!! Attached is a link to my images.
Looking forward to continue your adventures and read your blog.
cordially
Yves
Thank you for these wonderful destinations that make us dream.
Soon Safaga with a group of teenagers and later Borneo and Sulawesi in Corinne's footsteps.
When I see your photos, I want to leave right away because I'm craving sunshine too.
it will soon be Martinique for me but the Maldives are even more dreamy, especially for diving.
Don't you want to meet up at the Andamans? I'm not that far away now 😀
The last photo is just crazy, I have a very big urge to make bubbles again there 🙂
When we are in the pollution, the greyness, you throw us beautiful photos! Thank you for this moment of escape 😉
Thanks Corinne, it's still a WONDERFUL destination. However, having looked at the website of the accommodation you mentioned, I don't think it's a destination that's really accessible to the average solo traveller! It's still a bit "honeymoon-Tahiti-Seychelles", isn't it?
Come on, cheer up, I'm off to Cabilao tomorrow and I'll send you some sunshine from there!
😉
Ah, once you've tasted the Maldives, you can't live without them ... 😉
Digurah, I like this island, especially as there is a superb guest-house that makes you want to spend a few days there...
So how were the dives on the Divine Ocean?
I'd love to hear from you because I've always hesitated to go with these PADI structures.
And the current:
- You liked ?
- not too hard with the SLR?
Come on, let's make a little photo contest: manta, whale sharks, gray, coral, zebra and fish leaf ❓
NB: great mid-air / mid-water and thank you for this panoramic app that I did not know !!
The view hurts the eyes!!! 🙂
