Koh Lipe: welcome to Sunrise Beach

Just for fun, a first picture of Koh Lipe... This is probably the most famous of the island. This small white sandy spit is located at the northern end of Sunrise Beach, on the east coast, as its name suggests. Photogenic as possible.

The translucent blue water is to die for. Koh Lipe is beautiful!

And I bitterly mourn the death, now official, of my little Canon A95. The sharpness of the image and the rendering of the colors was infinitely superior to what I get with this other APN (Sony Cyber-Shot).

But I'm not going to be picky. It's better than nothing. Julien, a guy from Forra Diving, was kind enough to lend me his camera for the day. I walked around the island, shooting everything.

I'll give you a little more photo selection in a future post. In the meantime, I leave you this one to dream ...

I dreamed of it, I'm there! Pulau Weh is a small Indonesian island located on the northern tip of Sumatra. The area is well known: it is the one of Banda Aceh, devastated during the tsunami of December 2004. Pulau Weh is not very touristic and is famous for its underwater world.

  1. There are worse things, I think. The mountain falling into the ocean is always magical. You can't get enough of it, even if the sharpness isn't as good.
Since you've been so highly praised by Glamour users, I've just bought the magazine, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary and offers a Glamour collector's pouch that's too top-notch, stinks of plastic a thousand miles away, but is a real eye-catcher with the cover of issue 1, featuring Laetitia Casta...
It's still pretty cold out there, so enjoy and let us enjoy your escapades underwater and on land. Are you still spending a lot of time on your Little Bubbles? Less than when you went to Mr. Internet?

  2. oh la la.... a window of sunshine and colour in this grey day where even the nearby Jura has disappeared... 😥
Thank you and we are waiting for the fish! : Mrgreen:

  3. @ Helen: I'm preparing some more images to cheer you up and give you courage during your convalescence...
    🙂

@Nono: Gosh. So I'm missing out on a glamorous gift that smells like plastic? Lucky me!!! In fact, as I have my own computer, I spend quite a bit of time on it, but not just for the internet: it allows me to sort and retouch my photos a bit (because yes, I have plenty of photos in stock, on land and underwater!!!).
    🙄

@ Malene: The fish are coming soon, in a future post. Just to open a small window of aquatic colors in the winter greyness...
    😉

    @ Marie-Julie:
    Perfect!!! Mission accomplished.
    😀

  4. Hello P'tite bulle,
Funnyworld the PC king told me about the device, the impending disaster... That was already eight days ago and I didn't have time to see how you were getting on until today. Luckily, some nice people were willing to help you out...
I've just been speed-reading the story of your calm and serene adventures on Koh Yao Noi, island n°8 and Koh Lipe, which doesn't look bad either! Now that I'm up to speed, I can't wait for the rest!

  5. Bashung died tonight and your photos are beautiful, with that cobbled-together camera. I love the fish with the black and white spots....

  6. @Paskle: Nothing stands in the way of night... 😥
It was you who told me the news about Bashung when I quickly checked my messages this morning at breakfast before the dives.

I'm not going to have the indecency of showing you the horrible images that illustrate Thai cigarette packets as a preventive measure. But it's calming.

Otherwise, the leopard-spotted fish that illustrates the following post is in fact a moray eel. A good size, but quite peaceful, it let itself be flashed without protesting. I don't have much time to take photos these days, I spend my days rescuing people who keep drowning and studying emergency procedures in the evening. Exhausting.

  7. Hello Corinne,

Beautiful photos that make you want to know this coast of Thailand that I have not yet done. Aren't you planning to visit us on Koh Pha Ngan one of these days? In any case, your site is really cool.

  8. @Steve: The Andamane coast is worth coming to and coming back to!!!! There are so many different islands...
I'll be back for a visit to the Gulf of Siam one of these days. I only know Koh Samui and Koh Tao, but not even Koh Phan Gan! As I've already told you once, I'll let you know, I promise, if I'm ever in the area... Thanks for the compliments on the site!!!!
    😀

  9. Koh Samui has lost all interest, unfortunately! I left more than 3 years ago. Koh Tao's seabed is inexorably dying. Koh Phangan remains a good compromise as the island is 70% forested and the fact that 1/3 of its surface is a National Park "protects" it from irrational development. I think I'll do the west coast next year in low season 😉
Continue to promote Thailand with your stories & beautiful photos. 🙂

  10. @Steve: Yes, alas, I can't believe what Samui has become. I knew it in the not-too-distant past, when there were still dirt roads with puddles between which you had to slalom, right in the middle of Chaweng...

I really like Koh Tao, the island is really pretty. It's a pity that the underwater sites have suffered so much. That said, for diving, there are still three sites worth visiting: Chumphon Pinnacle, South West Pinnacle and Sail Rock.

Finally, if Phan Gan has survived the full moon parties, half moon parties and other black moon parties that made its reputation, that's a good thing!!!! I love Thailand so much, that I will continue to encourage people to discover the country!!!!

  11. Hi Corinne!

    Fantastic your photos 🙂!!
    🙂

Hoping to see you again at Ko Lipe, for some dives ...
Well the best in your wanderings!

  12. @OrO: Hello Julien, and welcome to my "Petites bulles d'ailleurs". I'm glad you enjoyed your visit.
As you can see, I'm having a lot of fun with this blog... I'm off to browse through your photos on your site too, if my connection deigns to support the loading of images this evening.
    Kisses and good luck !!!
